🏍️ Motorcycle MOT – Frequently Asked Questions

📆 MOT Requirements

When does my motorcycle need its first MOT?

Your motorcycle requires its first MOT once it reaches 3 years of age. After that, it must be tested annually to remain road legal.

Can I ride my motorcycle without a valid MOT?

Only if you're heading directly to a pre-booked MOT test or to a garage for repairs. Riding without a valid MOT at other times is illegal and may result in penalties.

How long does a motorcycle MOT take?

Most MOTs are completed within 30 minutes, depending on the condition of the bike.

🔧 What’s Included in the MOT?

What parts of the motorcycle are inspected?

We check key safety components including:

• Brakes and brake fluid levels

• Lights, indicators, and horn

• Tyres (minimum tread depth of 1mm)

• Suspension and steering

• Frame integrity and fuel system

• Exhaust emissions and noise levels

• Number plate visibility and legibility

Will I be notified about minor issues?

Yes. Any non-critical issues will be listed as advisories on your MOT certificate so you can plan future maintenance.

What happens if my motorcycle fails the MOT?

You’ll receive a failure certificate detailing the issues. Repairs must be completed before a retest can be issued.

🛠️ After the MOT

Can you carry out repairs if my bike fails?

Yes — we offer on-site repairs for common faults such as bulbs, brake pads, and tyres. We’ll always discuss options before proceeding.

Will I get a reminder for my next MOT?

Absolutely. We offer free email or SMS reminders to help you stay compliant and avoid last-minute stress. We will give you a business card with MOT due date on too.
